WELCOME WAGON
The Division of Campus Residence offers students the leadership opportunity to help make Opening Weekend for new resident students a welcoming and inviting day. Welcome Wagon has become a growing tradition and is a part of move in day that many returning students look forward to as a way to interact with new students, contribute to the endless tasks required to make check-in run smoothly and to simple be part of the excitement of the back-to-school spirit.
All Stony Brook University students, faculty and staff may participate as a Welcome Wagon Volunteer.
All Welcome Wagon Volunteers will participate in:
New Student Check in Day-
Saturday, August 30, 2008
On this
day, Welcome Wagon Volunteers help First Year students move their belongings
into their residence hall room, greet new students and their parents, help with
crowd control and serve as a campus resource for information.
-AND-
Undergraduate College Day-
Sunday, August 31, 2008
This day
Welcome Wagon Volunteer will be helping the Quads facilitate fun activities for
the First Year students. Volunteers may be requested to help with set-up and
breakdown of activities.

Returning Student Check in Day- Monday,
September 1, 2008
VOLUNTEERING
If you are accepted into the program you must complete the following duties:
- Attend training session.
-
Assist
new and returning students with the move-in process.
- Physically unload vehicles and help carry students personal belongings to their rooms.
- Serve as a resource for new students and their families, answering questions and giving out directions.
- Assist with the clean up of your building after check-in is completed.
- Assist with the Undergraduate College Day to help new students transition to their college.
· Help facilitate team builder and transition activities with all new freshmen.
· Set up and break down of all activities.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Acceptance to be a Welcome Wagon volunteer is based on date of application. Applications will not be accepted after August 01, 2008

All volunteers will be contacted via e-mail with application approval, training day details and assignment information.

In order to participate, students must have a clear judicial record and be registered to live on campus for the Fall 2008 semester.

You must check in to your Residence Hall by 2:00 PM on Friday, August 29, 2008.

You must attend Welcome Wagon Volunteer Training on Friday, August 29, 2008. Failure to attend may result in denied permission for early check-in to your Residence Hall, as well as, denied permission to participate as a Welcome Wagon Volunteer.

Volunteers will be assigned to assist in H-Quad, Kelly Quad, Mendelsohn Quad, Roosevelt Quad Tabler Quad, or Roth Quad.

All volunteers may be assigned to Quads, Residence Halls or Undergraduate College other than their own.

You must attend all training sessions and complete all duties. Failure to do so may result in billing for 1 week of Intersession Housing.
