MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the University Counseling Center (UCC) is to provide the psychological and psychiatric services that many students need in order to be able to join the university community and flourish academically and socially. Licensed and certified mental health professionals provide immediate help in emergencies and ongoing and sustaining relationships for Stony Brook students.
We encourage new first-year and transfer students in particular, and all students whose difficulties could seriously compromise their ability to remain at the university, to contact us as soon as problems arise. Prevention, outreach, education, training programs, and immediate consultation services for students, parents, faculty, and staff are equally important in facilitating the academic life, psychological health, and safety of the campus.
The UCC is committed to affirming and respecting people of all backgrounds and to responding to each unique individual as he or she wishes to be understood.
