Benefits of Membership
The fraternity and sorority community provides outstanding opportunities for its members to continue their development and attain their full potential.
Joining a fraternity or sorority offers students the opportunity to attain scholarship, build leadership skills, serve the community, create life long bonds, improve their character and enrich their college experience.
Scholarship
The academic standing of its members is the top priority of each organization as they strive to achieve excellence in all areas contained within the academic realm.
With the help of the experience gained by upper-class members, fraternity and sorority members are able to obtain personal guidance from each other as well as from advisors in the planning of curriculum, choosing classes, and receiving assistance with registration.
Leadership
Membership in a fraternity or sorority will continuously present opportunities to become involved and to participate in a wide variety of activities and leadership positions that teach cooperation and acceptance of responsibility.
Each organization is self-governing and will offer its qualified members many opportunities to take on leadership positions on committees, or serve in elected posts not only within the individual chapters, but also on the Inter-Fraternity & Sorority Council.
Taking on leadership positions such as these while in college offers students the chance to use and develop their unique talents and interests while also developing essential skills needed to be an effective leaders.
Service
One of the many rewarding aspects of membership in fraternal organizations is the belief that community service is the best way to extend yourself to others. Chapters show their support for the community by donating their time to a chosen philanthropy, as well as, other wide-ranging community service projects both on campus and throughout the community.
Social
Fraternities and Sororities are also social organizations that offer the opportunity to not only share in the bond of brotherhood and sisterhood, but also pursue the goal of encouraging the personal development of its members through the use of social interaction. As a member of an organization there are many opportunities to have fun and meet people at both business and social functions, which will allow the members to develop poise, and self-confidence.
Brotherhood/Sisterhood
By far the greatest asset attained through membership in fraternal organizations is the sense of camaraderie that is developed among members of the same chapter. Members share common goals and ideals within each organization and work hard and strive to achieve those goals. Strong bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood support members throughout their college years.
Character
Character can be defined as the moral or ethical structure of a person or a group of people. All Fraternities and Sororities strive to instill the ideals of integrity, honor and truth within their members. The development of men and women of character as a distinguishing attribute a purpose common to all chapters.
