A Response to Your Needs The Residential Tutoring Centers (RTC) are an initiative developed jointly by the Division of Campus Residences and The University Scholars Living Learning Center by which tutoring and academic help centers are coordinated and operated on site within the residence halls where students live. Research done within our very own residence halls indicate that a high percentage of Stony Brook students who live on campus do most of their studying in their rooms, in the residence halls. Further, many students, like you, indicate that you do much of your studying in the evening and night, as you work to balance your academics with job and family commitments. Studying at these hours can be challenging because many instructors' and help centers' office hours are held throughout the daytime. What are you to do, then, when you come across a topic you may be studying that is particularly difficult? The development of a residentially based and operated tutoring center is a response to your needs. The Residential Tutoring Centers not only provide you with qualified tutors to help answer your specific questions in some of the University's most challenging and demanding courses, but it creates a centralized location for you to work with fellow classmates to help you learn from each other. Further, the Residential Tutoring Centers will hold review sessions for these courses before scheduled exams. |
