RESIDENTIAL COMPUTING CENTER DETAILS

Welcome to the Residential Computing Centers at Stony Brook University. We are committed to providing residential students with the technological resources necessary to expand their education "beyond the classroom".  Each undergraduate quad has one computing center.  Each lab is equipped with Dell desktop computers with flat screen monitors, a scanner, and a printer. We also extend our services to any faculty or staff who would like to host an event using our facilities. Clubs and organizations are also welcome. If you are interested, please contact us.
 

Baruch 2-6592   

The Baruch computing center is located in Kelly Quad. The Baruch computing center includes the following:

  • 24 Dell Optiplex GX745s
  • 1 Macintosh G4
  • One Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • One Epson Perfection 1650 Scanner

Benedict 2-6482   

The Benedict computing center is located in H Quad. The Benedict computing center includes the following:

  • 25 Dell Optiplex GX745s
  • 1 Macintosh G4
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection V100 scanner

Cardozo 2-4969   

The Cardozo computing center is located in Roth Quad. The Cardozo computing center includes the following:

  • 17 Dell Optiplex GX620's
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection 1650 Scanner

Douglass 2-4942   

The Douglass computing center is located in Tabler Quad. The Douglass computing center includes the following:

  • 25 Dell Optiplex GX755s
  • 1 Macintosh G4
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection 1650 Scanner

O'Neill 2-6279   

The O'Neill computing center is located in Mendelsohn Quad. The O'Neill computing center includes the following:

  • 21 Dell Optiplex GX755s
  • 1 Macintosh G4
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection 1650 Scanner

Stimson 2-6987   

The Stimson computing center is located in Roosevelt Quad. The Stimson computing center includes the following:

  • 13 Dell Optiplex GX280s
  • 1 Macintosh G4
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection 1650 Scanner

West Apartments 2-4927

The West Apartments center is located in the West E Commons Building. The West Apartments computing center includes the following:

  • 19 Dell Optiplex GX620s
  • 1 Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 8150N
  • 1 Epson Perfection 2480 Scanner

Desktops (PC)

Each of our computing centers is equipped with Dell desktop computers. We currently use 4 different models:

  • Optiplex GX280
  • Optiplex GX620
  • Optiplex GX745
  • Optiplex GX755

Printers

Each of our computing centers is equipped with Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printers.  Our current model is: HP LaserJet 8150n

Scanners

Each of our computing centers is equipped with an Epson scanner.  We currently use 3 different models:

  • Epson Perfection 1650 scanner (O'Neill, Cardozo, Stimson, Baruch, & Douglass)
  • Epson Perfection 2480 scanner (West)
  • Epson Perfection V100 scanner (Benedict)

All of our computers are running the Windows XP operating system. We have the following software available on all of our computers:

Rules
  • Anyone who enters the lab must have Stony Brook ID
  • Only residential students are permitted to use the lab
  • Eating and drinking is not permitted in the lab
  • Disruptive behavior is not permitted in the lab
  • Installing, modifying or deleting software from the computers is prohibited.
  • If you leave the computer for more than five minutes, you may lose use of that computer
  • Printing will be limited per user. Any abuse will cause loss of printing privileges.
  • If the lab is full and students waiting are doing work, you may be asked to give up your computer if you are using the computer for recreation
