Commitment

  • What are the regular time requirements for a RA/GRA?
    *There is no set schedule for the RA/GRA position. In general, staff meetings usually occur on Tuesday nights around 8:00pm followed by Hall Council meeting around 10:00pm. RAs/GRAs are also required to participate in the nightly duty rotation beginning at 7:00pm. Additional scheduled requirements such as one on one meetings with their RHD, health & safety inspections and programs are set in conjunction with their supervisor.
  • How long is the RA/GRA training?
    *RA/GRA training is held a week or two prior to new student arrival in the fall. If you are offered a RA/GRA position, the exact dates of employment will be listed in your Statement of Understanding.
  • If I'm a RA/GRA, can I hold another job?
    *Yes. RAs/GRAs are permitted to hold a job outside of the position for no more than 10 hours a week unless prior approval has been given from their Residence Hall Director/Quad Director.
  • Do I have to stay until the residence hall is closed or return before the residence halls open?
    Yes, as a RA/GRA, you will be responsible for participating in the check out and check in process for building residents.
  • What are some circumstances under which a RA/GRA could lose their position?
    *RAs/GRAs hold highly esteemed positions, as such they are also held to high standards of conduct and performance. RAs/GRAs may be released from their positions or not renewed for a subsequent employment period if they do not meet standards and expectations held by the University, the Department of Residential Programs, or their supervisor(s). For more detailed information regarding expectations RAs/GRAs should consult their supervisor, the University Student Conduct Code, and the residential Terms of Occupancy.
