Thank you for your interest in the Stony Brook University Safe Space! This website is intended to introduce the Safe Space Program to the University community. It is here to encourage faculty, staff, and students to become active and effective allies to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) community.
Our mission is to ensure that Stony Brook University becomes a more inclusive place for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) people by fostering a supportive learning and working environment.
SAFE SPACE FOUNDATIONS
Safe Space Foundations is an introductory course designed to raise knowledge and awareness about LGBTQ* topics and available resources. Participants are provided with foundational information and insight necessary to attend the Safe Space Members Workshop if they so choose.
Participants completing employment or educational requirements welcome!

SAFE SPACE MEMBERS WORKSHOP
The Safe Space Members Workshop is a strictly voluntary program for students, faculty, and staff who have completed the Safe Space Foundations Workshop and are committed to providing a safe and affirming spaces for LGBTQ* and ally students. This workshop will give participants the skills needed in order to become a resource and point of referral for LGBTQ* and ally students. At the conclusion of this workshop participants will have the opportunity to sign the Safe Space Member Contract in order to receive their Safe Space stickers, buttons, magnets, etc.
The Safe Space Members Workshop cannot be used to fultill employment, internshipo, training, outreach, or other academic requirements.
