Safe Space Foundations

Safe Space Foundations is a workshop open to all who would like to learn more about the LGBTQ community and resources on and off campus. This is an introductory course designed for those who want to gain basic knowledge and awareness. This workshop will give participants the knowledge and awareness needed in order to attend the Safe Space Members Workshop.

Target audience - any member of the Stony Brook Community (Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff) who would like to increase their awareness and improve their understanding of current issues.

Space Members Workshop

Safe Space Members Workshop is a voluntary program for students/faculty/staff who have completed the Safe Space Foundations Workshop. This workshop will give participants the skills needed in order to become a member of the Safe Space Program. At the conclusion of this workshop participants will have the opportunity to sign the Safe Space Member Contract in order to receive their Safe Space stickers, buttons, magnets, etc.

Target audience - Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Faculty and Staff who would like to commit to skill and ally building and who would like to be a resource to the Stony Brook LGBTQ community.

The Goals of Safe Space are:

  • To create campus spaces where LGBTQ persons feel safe, supported, and valued as members of our University or campus community.
  • To provide information about resources and appropriate referrals for members of the campus community seeking additional support and information in this area.
  • To expand the network of allies on campus.
  • To build awareness of the issues affecting LGBTQ persons.
